conhecido por muitos como sendo uma canção de johnny cash, é no entanto produto de 2 autores de nashville: danny dill e marijohn wilkinn que, nos idos de 1959 foram buscar a inspiração a um padre que apareceu morto e a ums mulher que de noite visitava a campa de rudolfo valentino (raramente o que dá o 'click' para a inspiração tem uma relação directa com o tema inspirado...)
foi o primeiro cover que bob dylan utilizou num disco e o único nos seus primeiros trabalhos.
de nick cave a marianne faithfull; do memorável concerto dos band em woodstock a dave matthews ou aos stranglers; de emmyllou harris ou joni mitchell a bruce springsteen, tudo já gravou esta pérola.
